Paul Auster was born in Newark, New Jersey, to Jewish middle-class parents of Polish descent, Queenie (née Bogat) and Samuel Auster. [3] [4] He grew up in South Orange, New Jersey , [5] and Newark , [6] and graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood .

Auster worked on the book seven days a week for three years and wrote it in long hand. Having brought you along through decades of four parallel stories, Auster bafflingly decides to end the novel by essentially explaining its concept and writing it into the story. With an “Archie will write a story in four parts; thus endeth the book” wave of his writerly wand, Auster abruptly stops writing and flees the scene. 4321 Paul Auster, 2017 Henry Holt & Company 800 pp.
