Hippolytos was one of the Gigantes (giants) in Greek mythology. Hippolytos was defeated by Hermes in the Gigantomachy (war between the Olympians and the Gigantes). Hippolytos means "letting horses loose", likely the word for a person who freed all the horses from a person's stables.
